Are there any commissions for doing Pay Per View or Subscriptions?

Yes, DaCast takes a small commission on each transfer done over the system. This commission is 9.9% plus $0.40 on each viewer purchase.

PayPal, bank transfer and other fees for processing payments are already covered in this, and there are no additional costs associated with selling content over Paywalls.

Note: The above refers to the process of selling content through the paywall. Fees might be associated with your payout request depending on your method and circumstance. Local banks may charge fees for receiving wire transfers. PayPal, for example, generally does not charge a fee for sending payment. Current exceptions, though, are sending money outside of the US, currency conversions and debit/credit card fees.

Please refer to the PayPal fees page here for explicit, up to date details on this:

I used the PPV option for one of the events I provided Live Webcasting for and they had to pay the 9.9% plus .40 commission that DaCast charges, AND the PayPal fees when the money was transferred to their PayPal account. This added up to a big chunk of change, so they weren't too happy about all the fees involved in this process. They are seeking an alternative PPV method for the event this year. :( The answer provided by support makes it sounds like the Dacast commission fees take care of everything, but that was not the case - when the money was transferred, PayPal had to take their share, too.

    Hi Julie,

The above was previously talking about the process of accepting payments through the paywall: the process of charging viewers. We have added explicit details about the payout request part based on your feedback here that this wasn't clear.

Really apologize for the confusion caused. An account rep will reach out to you about your case for more details and to better assist you.

    Hi Anthony,
Thank you so much for your response. My experience has show Dacast Support to be top notch!! You are always so helpful and try your best to resolve EVERY issue your customers have.
I clicked on the link to the PayPal fees page, but it just caused me to have additional questions. For example. if I set up a PPV live webcast and our viewers pay with PayPal through the paywall, are PayPal fees taken from those amounts or is that what is included in Dacast's commission fees? If Dacast uses the "sending money to friends and family" in PayPal to send the money to us after the event, there shouldn't be any additional fees there either. Therefore, I'm not sure where the PayPal fees would ever apply? Can you help me understand when PayPal fees would be taken?

    Hi Julie,

    Great questions.

You as the broadcaster receive no additional fees for selling your content over the paywall besides the listed commission, which is presently 9.9% plus $0.40 on each viewer purchase.

The link to the PayPals fees will only be relevant during the payout request process, when the money is sent to you. Just as an example, DaCast, which is a US entity, can send money to a broadcaster located outside the US. PayPal will charge a fee for this, and possibly a currency fee as well if it needs to be converted to another currency. This page doesn't list the fees, but does explain this better than the previous link given: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/helphub/article/?solutionId=FAQ690
