M3u8 online player to test your hls stream

This article concerns all pro plans and above, with access to the HLS m3u8 media link. 

The HLS m3u8 link allows you to deliver your live stream to Roku TV, Apple TV or any private web TV channels and mobile app.

To test your m3u8 link in order to verify that it plays correctly, we recommend 2 methods:

  1. Using a m3u8 online player 
  2. Using VLC Media Player desktop app 


Using a m3u8 online player
The m3u8 online player we recommend is the following: https://www.hlsplayer.net/ :

  1. Log in to your DaCast account 
  2. Go under the publish settings of the live channel you are streaming on
  3. Copy the m3u8 link 
    (click here for a tutorial on how to generate a M3U8 media link in the Back Office)
  4. Open the m3u8 online player in your browser 
  5. Paste the m3u8 link 
    Make sure your link has the following format: 
    https://dcuniliveXX-lh.akamaihd.net/i/dclive_x@xxxx/master.m3u8
  6. Click on Play 
  7. Your live stream should appear 


Using VLC Media Player desktop app 
VLC Media Player is an open-source player software that you can download for free here.

  1. Log in to your DaCast account 
  2. Go under the publish settings of the live channel you are streaming on
  3. Copy the m3u8 link 
    (click here for a tutorial on how to generate a M3U8 media link in the Back Office)
  4. Open VLC Media Player desktop app 
  5. In the top bar menu, click on Media and select "Open Network Stream" 
  6. Paste the m3u8 link 
    Make sure your link has the following format: 
    https://dcuniliveXX-lh.akamaihd.net/i/dclive_x@xxxx/master.m3u8
  7. Click on Play 
  8. Your live stream should appear
